Human Echoes: Beyond the Digital Horizon
VIDEO ART
INTERNATIONAL STREAMING FESTIVAL
Vienna, Austria
PREMIERE SEASON 05
Residual Data:
Future Hauntologies
Season 05 arrives as the most spectral and philosophical chapter of ON SCREEN. It is a meditation on what lingers and what is to come — a curatorial journey into the shadows of digital culture, where traces, ghosts, and memories persist within systems long after their intended use has faded.
Residual Data speaks to the fragments that remain: the forgotten files, corrupted archives, and invisible metadata that haunt our machines. These residues are not inert; they are charged with memory, bias, and history. They remind us that every digital gesture leaves behind a ghostly imprint, a spectral echo of presence.
Future Hauntologies point to the uncanny ways the future already inhabits our present. In the age of predictive algorithms, simulation engines, and generative systems, tomorrow is no longer a distant horizon but a force shaping our perception today. The future haunts us as promise and as threat, as utopia deferred and dystopia rehearsed.
This season unfolds as a philosophical cartography of spectral landscapes. The selected video works traverse ruins of data, haunted architectures, and uncanny temporalities. They ask: What does it mean to live among ghosts of information? How do we inhabit a world where memory is encoded, and the future arrives as a haunting rather than a hope?
Season 05 is not a conclusion, but a lingering resonance. It is the afterimage of the festival — a meditation on persistence, disappearance, and the spectral architectures of digital life. Here, artists invite us to dwell in the tension between what remains and what is yet to come, between the ghosts of yesterday and the hauntologies of tomorrow.
